What’s your morning routine?

I wake up with the sunrise in the morning. I live in Melbourne so in summer that was 7am but it’s getting later and later. I’ve never been an early bird and despite struggling to wake up earlier all of my life, I’ve realised that waking up with the sun feels really natural.

I work from home and I don’t normally sit down at my desk until 9am so I really can have as much freedom as I like. So I wake up with the sun and stumble out of bed to the kitchen where I make breakfast. We recently made the decision to make our bedroom a phone-free zone to avoid the mindless scrolling that happens when we first wake up. Because my phone isn’t in my bedroom, I don’t immediately pick it up and it gives me a buffer and time to wake with more intention.

Once I’ve made my breakfast, I head back to my bedroom where I sit at my desk and write in my journal (and eat my food). I practice a daily journal routine where I write down my big dreams and then practice some affirmations. It normally takes me ten minutes. I also have a Daily Dream Creator Journal which I fill with my intention for the day and my top three priorities. It even has space to journal on gratitude, money, well-being, play and dreams.

Once I’ve filled out both my journals, I’ll start to get ready while my partner makes a coffee. If he’s not home in the morning, I’ll treat myself for a walk to my favourite coffee shop and spend the time listening to an inspiring podcast (I’m loving The Priestess Podcast by Julie Parker) or audiobook (currently listening to The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks). Once I have my coffee, I’ll head back to my desk, take a few sips and then do a quick seven minute meditation. If I have some time left over, I’ll check into any projects I’m working on and then start my day of work.

If you could only share one piece of wisdom with the world that you’ve learned on your journey so far, what would it be?
It’s all about alignment, honey! So work out what’s important to you then do everything you can to stay in that space. Don’t be hard on yourself if you stray from flow and know that it’s always there waiting for you to come back!
