Alisha Brunton is an illustrator, designer and yoga teacher. Through her graphic design studio, Love Indigo Creative, Alisha works with women who are changing the world through conscious business. When she’s not in the studio, you can find her immersed in teaching and practicing yoga, and obsessively painting watercolour patterns.
What’s your morning routine?
I wake up between 5.30 and 6am, depending on what yoga class I’m heading to that day! I’ll throw on some clothes, brush my teeth and head out the door with a cup of herbal tea. Occasionally I practice yoga at home, but most days I head to the studio for either a yoga or barre class.
When I get home it’s breakfast – usually a smoothie bowl unless it’s really cold – while listening to a podcast. Then I jump through the shower, and sit down to do 15 minutes of meditation followed by some journaling. My journaling practice used to be really on-and-off, and then I read about morning pages in Julia Cameron’s ‘The Artist’s Way’ and I was hooked. Sometimes I’m answering specific prompts or focusing on gratitude, but most days it’s just stream of consciousness writing for 3 pages.
Then I’ll make a cup of hot cacao, put some essential oils in the diffuser and turn my phone off aeroplane mode ready to start the day. I find that leaving my phone off until I’ve meditated and practiced yoga makes a HUGE difference to my mindset for the day.
6 Rapid Questions
Do you have a morning ritual that no matter how crazy your morning is (knowing your normal routine won’t get done), you do?
Movement always happens, even if it’s just a few yoga poses or a stroll on the beach. A nourishing breakfast is also a non-negotiable!
What’s your guiding word for 2017?
What’s your favourite morning beauty hack or product?
Inika BB creme. Because I work from home I don’t wear a lot of make up, but if I’m heading out to a cafe or to run errands this is my go-to product.
What is your go to breaky that makes you feel amazing?
A smoothie bowl for sure! Anything with cacao is my favourite – usually banana, avocado, almond milk, frozen zucchini (seriously!), maca, supergreen powder and a few drops of wild orange essential oil. I make it super thick and add whatever toppings I have handy.
What book are you reading right now?
Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom by Christiane Northrup. I usually have a fiction read in the mix too, and I’ve just finished It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover.
If you could only share one piece of wisdom with the world that you’ve learned on your journey so far, what would it be?
You can only get so far by following what works for others… then you have to figure out what feels truly aligned for YOU in order to create a life that feels amazing. It’s a constant journey, but this year especially has been all about reconsidering what feels aligned for me. The unknown can be scary, but it’s also where the magic happens.
